Headlines

Welcome back! I hope you all had a really lovely half-term break. While the temperature has dropped somewhat, the cooler weather has certainly made things more comfortable for our students and staff working hard in classrooms and undertaking examinations.

A particular highlight this week have been the Whole School Assemblies delivered by Mr. Nicholls. The assemblies were on the theme of the forthcoming World Cup – with student (and staff) input predicting the outcome. The general view is that England may finish third. However, some of us remember 60 years ago, 30th July, when Geoff Hurst scored a hat-trick for England, winning the Jules Rimet Cup at the original Wembley Stadium. Can history repeat itself 60 years on?

On Tuesday, a number of our students left for France on our annual French Exchange. I am sure they will have an amazing time, and we look forward to hearing all about their adventures in due course.

Additionally, this Friday, our Year 10 students leave for their Bronze DofE Expedition. Many have been seen around school carrying heavy rucksacks, cooking utensils, and Trangia stoves in preparation! Good luck to everyone heading out of school for these events, and a massive thank you to the staff who worked so hard to arrange them.

E-Week is almost here! I would like to say a huge thank you to Mr. Cracknell, Mr. Nicholls, and all the staff leaders who have spent countless hours organising these events. It has been planned with military precision and is set to be a fantastic week of activities.

Start Date: Monday, 15th June. Reminder: If you are unsure about your schedule or what activities you are doing, please find out quickly by speaking to your form tutor or another member of staff.

Next week marks the start of the Year 12 Threshold Examinations. Our students have been revising diligently, and we are incredibly confident that their hard work will pay off. We wish everyone the very best of luck.

This final half-term of the year, while slightly longer, is incredibly busy and always flies by. Here is a quick look at the exciting events we have lined up:

  • E-Week
  • Arts Week
  • Year 11 and Year 13 Proms
  • Induction Day (for upcoming Year 7 and Year 12 students)
  • Fit for Life Week
  • Open Evening
  • Prize Giving Assemblies (for each year group)
  • Culture Day (on the final day of term)

These events are perfectly orchestrated to provide everyone with fantastic opportunities to enjoy themselves and continue learning right up until the end of the academic year.

Have a great weekend when it arrives.

A Brand New Cricket Pitch

Over half term, an exciting new addition was made to our school grounds - a brand new cricket pitch!

We partnered with OA's Cricket Club to make this happen, who will also be making use of the pitch at weekends.

This fantastic facility will not only support the development of cricket at Sandringham, but will also have a positive impact on the wider local community.

Our talented Cricket captains are pictured here, and are very excited to start testing it out over the next few weeks.

Rewards Week - It's Here!

Next week is Rewards Week, and it's a great opportunity to make your mark on the House Cup.

Every house point earned between Monday and Friday will count double, so there's never been a better time to give that extra bit of effort.

On top of that, every house point earned puts you in with a chance of winning a prize draw for your year group - so the more points you collect, the better your odds!

Let's make it count... double!

BOOK SPOTLIGHT

Win Lose Kill Die by Cynthia Murphy

When a series of murders target the highest achievers at an elite school, the race is on to find the killer.

The students at Morton Academy are high-achievers, selected based on academic excellence. So, when a series of murders target the school's brightest and best, the pressure is on. Someone is determined to stop at nothing to clear their path to the top. But who is it? And can they be stopped?

Reviewed by Hayley M in Yr 8:

"This book is one of the best murder mysteries I have ever read! Every character felt suspicious at some point, and just when I thought I had figured everything out, the story completely surprised me. The plot twist was incredible and genuinely unexpected - I did not see it coming at all! Looking back, the clues were there, but they were hidden so well that the reveal still felt shocking."

OUR YEAR OF READING

Recommendations Galore

Our Year of Reading continues positively at Sandringham. Before the half term break, it was the English faculty’s turn to share book recommendations with their students. In many ways, this happens naturally through the curriculum but teachers took time to share their personal favourites across the week including Divergent and Girl, Woman, Other. Thank you to Ms Summers and the whole English faculty for supporting this.

In addition, the Geography faculty also shared their top reads with students. The recommendations included the fascinating Prisoners of Geography and We Have a Dream. Many thanks to Ms Pratley and the Geography team for their support
