Don’t miss the opportunity! Last week, applications opened for adults who wish to make a career change and enter the wonderful world of teaching. You may know that Sandringham hosts the Alban Teaching School Hub (ATSH) which delivers high-quality training for schools across the East of Hertfordshire. Part of this work involves delivering Initial Teacher Training (ITT). Applicants must hold a relevant degree in the subject they would like to specialise in, and the training is delivered across an academic year, with trainees part located in school and part training with others either at Sandringham or one of our other hub sites. There are significant bursaries available across a range of subjects and we have an outstanding track record of supporting trainees to secure a teaching position. Many of our trainees are career changers, who have always thought of teaching as a career and decide to make the step into education. If you would like to know more we would love to hear from you. The website explains more or feel free to contact Sandringham directly. Looking forward to hearing from some of you.
A major highlight this week was meeting over 120 of our Year 12 students who applied and interviewed for Senior Prefect positions. The interviews, held on Monday and Tuesday, showcased the exceptional confidence, communication, and leadership skills of our students, many of whom could easily rival adults interviewing for professional roles. It was a real pleasure hearing their ideas and aspirations for the future. Congratulations to everyone who took part; we look forward to our new Senior Prefects working closely with younger students in the months ahead.
We were also delighted to welcome our visitors from Europa International School in Seville as part of our Spanish Exchange Programme. The cooler weather may be a surprise for them, but our students, staff, and host families have provided a very warm welcome. A special thank you to Ms Unsain for her excellent organisation and to all our host families for opening their homes and hearts once again.
On Wednesday evening, we were pleased to welcome Year 10 families to hear more about the transition to GCSE studies and how to best support learning at this crucial stage. Our thanks go to Dr. Martijn van der Spoel for sharing invaluable advice on study skills and family support. The evening was both informative and inspiring for all who attended.
Finally, next Tuesday evening our Music Faculty will be hosting an Evening of Jazz in the Main School Hall. This cabaret-style event will be a wonderful evening of entertainment, celebrating the musical talents of our students. Thank you to Ms Stothard and the music faculty in advance for organising the evening, and I look forward to seeing some of you there.
Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable weekend.

We are happy to share that Teresa C has been selected for the final of the Ballet Grand Prix in Scotland, taking place in February 2026. In the final, she will showcase her talent through both a classical ballet and a contemporary piece, embracing an exciting new challenge.
Teresa earned her spot in the final after a strong performance at the semi-final held at Acosta Dance Centre on the 21st September. Out of all the participants in the Junior session, only around 15 were chosen for the final, making this a really outstanding achievement for her.
Congratulations Teresa, we will look forward to hearing how you get on in February,

On Thursday 9th October, Yr 13 A Level Literature students went to see Hamlet - their Shakespeare examination text - performed at the National Theatre.
The cast were all incredibly impressive, and Francesca Mills stole the show as Ophelia.
It was great to compare this contemporary take on the tragedy with other performances watched on Digital Theatre.
It was certainly a memorable night and students really enjoyed their evening in London.

This October, we are proud to join schools and communities across the UK in celebrating Black History Month - a time to recognise and honour the achievements, contributions and stories of Black people throughout history and today.
As part of this, students took part in a dedicated assembly this week, reflecting on the importance of Black History Month and the positive impact of diversity and inclusion within our school and wider community.
Black History Month encourages us all to learn from the past, celebrate the present and shape a more inclusive future together. It’s a reminder that understanding, respect and equality are values we can live by every day at Sandringham.

Shakespeare have extended their lead out in front, nearly reaching the 7k points mark. Elgar and Turing remain in their second and third positions as we race up to half term.
Special mentions this week:
On Wednesday 15th October, a number of our GCSE and A Level students enjoyed a visit from conductor and composer, Bill Carslake.
Students enjoyed hearing him speak about his life and experiences as a professional musician, a fresh perspective on ways to approach composition using the analogy of birdsong, and even a quick foray into conducting at the end!
Many thanks to for Bill for his time.

Buried Fire by Jonathan Stroud
When Michael staggers home red-eyed and confused from an afternoon alone on the hill, his family suspect sunstroke, or even drugs.
But the truth is more terrifying than that. By digging up a Celtic cross in the churchyard, church excavators have released the evil influences of a dragon long buried under the neighbouring hill, and powerful forces are at large Sinister neighbours have already yielded to the enticements of this power and are determined to make Michael one of their own.
The fragile bonds that link Michael with his brother and sister are seemingly about to be destroyed in a fight for his soul...
Luke S in Yr 7 has recently read the book and felt that it, “Kept me on my edge of my seat throughout with some unexpected twists popping out of nowhere like jack-in-the-boxes. I would highly recommend this book”
