It’s hard to believe our first full week of the new school year is already drawing to a close, and what a busy and positive start it has been!
This week’s assemblies have been all about reconnecting as a community: a warm welcome back for everyone, a timely reminder of our core values, and a celebration of the superb achievements of last year’s Year 11 and Year 13 students. Their success continues to inspire us all.
Our wide range of clubs and activities are now in full swing. Everything is organised through SOCS, our dedicated online platform, so please check there to see what’s available. One of our major goals this year is that every student gets involved in at least one extra-curricular activity. If you are still deciding, simply browse online, speak with your tutor, or chat to the member of staff leading the club that catches your interest. There is something for everyone.
On Tuesday, we welcomed families to our first Open Morning of the year. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with visitors liking our approach of Autumn Open Mornings alongside our Summer Open Evening. This gives families plenty of chances to experience life at Sandringham. A special thank you goes to our student guides, you were outstanding ambassadors, and we are so proud of the way you represented the school.
We also saw the annual year 7 ‘Mob Race’, which is traditionally held at Sandringham for all local secondary schools. A fantastic turn-out from everyone, and lots of opportunity to catch up with friends from junior schools. Well done to all the runners, and congratulations to I. Boyle for finishing second in the girls race, and R. Bullivant for coming first in the boys section. Overall, the girls team came third and the boys first. Thank you to Mr Keenlyside and the PE faculty for organising.
Our governors will meet on Monday for the first time this academic year to review exam outcomes and ensure all is set for the year ahead. At the same time, we will be bidding a fond farewell to Mrs. Anne Garland, who has served as a governor since 2010. Anne has given so much of her time and expertise to Sandringham, and her commitment has been truly remarkable. Thank you, Anne, it has been a privilege to work with you, and you will be greatly missed.
You may have seen the recent feature in the Herts Advertiser on the Telegraph’s national listing of secondary schools in England. We are delighted to share that Sandringham has been ranked 33rd out of more than 3,500 schools nationwide, and the top school in our local area. This recognition reflects the dedication of our students and the incredible hard work of our staff. Congratulations to everyone, we are so proud of what we have achieved together.
This evening promises to be a highlight, with our Year 7 Peak District Information Evening followed by the ever-popular Year 7 Family BBQ. With more than 300 people attending, it’s set to be a lively event, and yes, that’s a lot of sausages! We look forward to welcoming families, sharing information, and helping make new friendships.
Wishing everyone a restful and enjoyable weekend.

We are immensely proud of this fantastic achievement and would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all the staff and students again for your hard work and dedication; schools are great when the team and community is great, and that is what we have here.
Congratulations to the other schools in our St Albans community who have also managed to achieve well deserved recognition.

This week marks an important milestone in the national expansion of childcare, and to recognise the occasion, Prime Minister Keir Starmer has written a letter to parents across the country. In it, he reaffirms his Plan for Change commitment to ensuring that 75% of five year olds reach a good level of development by 2028, giving every child the best possible start in life.
We encourage all parents and carers to take a moment to read this important message.
Thank you for your continued support.

The Danger Gang by Tom Fletcher
Franky can’t wait to move to his new town – although he wishes he didn’t have to leave his best friend Dani behind. But everything changes after the storm, when strange green lightening and powerful thunder crash down. From that night on, the kids who live on Franky’s Street become a little odd. A little unusual. A little. . . magical.
Owen H, 7T, says ‘This book is about a group of children who have to solve the mysteries of the storm. The main character moves to a new town and really wants to be like his hero, a super spy. It’s an exciting book and has some danger too. I’ve read it more than once!’
